First Nations Knives LLC is the only Native American knife company. Founded in 2005 by Ross John, an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, First Nations Knives' are inspired and designed by Native Americans, with a mission to not only make knives for all Americans, but to teach the ancient art as well.
The very name of the company – First Nations Knives – is a reminder that, long before the United States became an independent nation, other nations thrived here. The Seneca – Onondowahgah or “People of the Great Hill” – were part of the first representative government on the continent.
A matriarchal society, the Seneca were members of the Iroquois Confederacy, established to bring peace to the six tribes populating all of upstate and western New York as well as northwestern Pennsylvania . In fact, the democratic principles practiced by the Iroquois Confederacy inspired the Founding Fathers while writing the Constitution; even the very symbol of the United States – the eagle – was borrowed from the Iroquois.
In light of the long, troubled history of Native Americans trying to survive with Non-Natives, it is significant to note that the proud Seneca never surrendered, but signed treaties to retain their tribal lands, rights, customs and culture that remain enforced and practiced to this day.
First Nations Knives is the natural evolution of Native Americans, reclaiming and celebrating their history for the benefit of all Americans.
To commemorate this important moment, First Nations Knives is proudly releasing the “Tree of Peace” knife – a celebration of unity and cooperation. To learn more about the “Tree of Peace” knife, click here.
